Italy named top place to holiday

Readers of Conde Nast Traveller have voted Italy as their number one holiday destination.

At the 16th edition of the magazine's readers' awards ceremony, which took place at London's British Museum on 2 September, it was announced that Italy is the top place to jet abroad, while the US and France came in second and third respectively. The remaining nations making up the top five were Spain in fourth place and Greece in fifth.

What's more, three Italian cities - Rome, Florence and Venice - were named in the top ten in the Favourite Overseas Cities category, with Venice climbing from 18th place in 2012 to fifth position this year.

Participants in the survey were required to fill out questionnaires on their tourism experiences and personal preferences, and the data was then analysed by an independent market research category.

Readers said they particularly value Italy for its culture and gastronomy.ADNFCR-408-ID-801635098-ADNFCR
