Tony Blair has argued that the travel industry can help to make the world a safer place.

Speaking at the World Travel and Tourism Council Asia Summit in Seoul, the former British prime minister said that booking holidays abroad is important to develop an understanding of different peoples and cultures.

'Visiting other countries gives people a chance to reflect on what makes other tick,' he said in his speech.

'The travel industry can help to bring about more commerce and prosperity but also more peace and security.'

He added: 'Ignorance breeds fear and fear breeds conflict. That is why travel is important.'

When asked about the crisis in Egypt, which has severely impacted upon its tourism industry, Mr Blair said that he hopes the new government will bring stability.

The north African country was thrown into chaos earlier this year when the newly elected government was overthrown by the army. ADNFCR-408-ID-801636284-ADNFCR
