India announces Himalayan tourism drive
27 Sep 2013

The Tourism Ministry in India has today (September 27th) launched a campaign to make holidays in the Himalayan Mountains more appealing, with a number of measures designed to raise awareness of the stunning beauty they offer.

It is hoped that the launch will spark a renewed interest in the Himalayas and encourage people to book flights to India for the trip of a lifetime.

Tourism minister Kochi Chiranjeevi announced the project as part of World Tourism Day, claiming the emphasis will be on raising awareness of the fact that 73% of the famous mountain range lies in India.

Two promotional films were launched as part of the drive - called 'The Greatest Show on Earth' and 'Life Altering Journey on Himalayas'.

India's Tourism Ministry worked closely with the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India in order to come up with specially-designed adventure programmes that can take place in the mountains, including trekking, skiing and whitewater rafting.ADNFCR-408-ID-801643146-ADNFCR
