PAL flights to continue despite US shutdown

Philippine Airlines (PAL) flights to the US have not been affected by the Federal government's shutdown that was announced yesterday (1 October).

According to Brian Cahill, federal security director of the Homeland Security Department, services to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Guam and Honolulu will continue as normal and Transportation Security Administration operations 'will not be impacted' by the crisis.

Speaking to GMA News Online, a PAL official - who wished to remain anonymous - agreed that all flights are set to proceed as scheduled, including the two that were due to leave Manila at 10pm and 10.30pm local time last night. 'Travel is an important aspect of life,' she added.

The US government is experiencing a government shutdown for the first time in 17 years as a result of Congress failing to come to an agreement regarding a new budget.
