The vast majority of airline passengers view technology as helpful when it comes to travelling, but many have yet to make use of it.

According to the 2013 SITA/Air Transport World Passenger IT Trends Survey published today (3 October), despite 90% of respondents recognising the benefits of mobile services, most are not adopting them.

Actions such as booking and checking-in from handheld devices remains below 5%, with more than three-quarters (78%) of passengers citing limitations of mobiles and usability concerns as the reason for this.

Francesco Violante, chief executive of SITA, said technology has become an indispensable travel tool, and there are opportunities for further improvements.

He added that 'passengers are ready but remain at the edge of really going mobile', and 'improving usability and utilising the unique capabilities of smartphones is the key to increasing usage'.

The survey also revealed that 69% of travellers questioned book flights through a website and 20% use a kiosk to check in.ADNFCR-408-ID-801645349-ADNFCR
