Finding safe and secure accommodation is the most important requirement when booking a holiday, according to new research.

Almost nine in ten (86%) of holidaymakers cite this as 'essential' or 'important', the latest Consumer Trends Survey from ABTA has revealed. This is 3% higher than a year ago.

The next most important factors - financial protection, ATOL protection and ABTA membership - are all linked to booking security, while value for money ranked fifth with 70%, ahead of knowledgeable staff.

Rounding out the top ten were ease of getting to and from the airport, having plenty of choice, getting the lowest price and being able to make flexible arrangements (49%).

'We know how important holidays are for people both in psychological and financial terms, so it makes sense that safety, protection and value for money continue to be highly valued,' commented ABTA chief executive Mark Tanzer.ADNFCR-408-ID-801652016-ADNFCR
