Brits take 36m foreign holidays a year

The UK is a nation of jetsetters, according to new research, with Brits booking 36m holidays abroad every year.

On average, each person enjoys one foreign trip and two UK breaks - a figure that is skewed somewhat by the 10% of Brits who take more than four foreign holidays per year, according to ABTA.

Our most likely foreign destinations are Spain, France, the USA, Italy, Portugal and Greece, while London, Blackpool, Edinburgh, Manchester and York are the most common places to take a city break in the UK.

Of these vacations, the vast majority are made by plane, with 28.57m flights taken each year. Cruise ships are the second most common mode of transport (4.55m) and trains third (3.05m).

The average amount spent on these trips is £557. Contributing to this figure are the 120m ice creams consumed, 15m bottles of sun lotion used and 144m pints of beer drunk.ADNFCR-408-ID-801653701-ADNFCR
