Beijing International has topped a new list of the world's best-designed airports, showing that you don't even need to leave the terminal to enjoy some spectacular architecture when on holiday.

Its sweeping Terminal 3, which was designed by the British firm Foster + Partners, was praised by Design Curial for 'emphasising massiveness and magnification'.

The architecture website ranked it ahead of Barajas Airport in Madrid, whose Terminal 4 - created by the architects Antonio Lamela and Richard Rogers - was commended for being designed so as to 'guide the passenger's journey through the building'.

Completing the top ten were Sondika Airport in Bilbao; Kuala Lumpur International in Malaysia; Oslo Airport; Carrasco International in Uruguay; Denver International; Menara Airport in Marrakech; King Abdulaziz International in Saudi Arabia; and Kansai International in Osaka.

'Airports present a unique challenge ... requiring large flat spaces, good visibility and favourable wind conditions. But they are also among our most amazing buildings,' the website concluded.ADNFCR-408-ID-801655530-ADNFCR
