Emirates CEO calls for better access
18 Nov 2013

The chief executive of Emirates has called on airports to give his airline more landing slots.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum believes that too many governments are currently intent on protecting their domestic carriers and are 'scared' of the competition, Arabian Business reports.

Instead, the airline boss believes it should be up to passengers to decide who they book flights with.

'It's people's choice at the end of the day, where they want to fly, to which airport, on which airline,' he said.

'I think we need to open up - airports need business.'

He also pointed to the ever-increasing airport capacity in Dubai as a model that other countries need to follow. Last month, Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai World Central received its first flight, with a second phase of development yet to come as it looks to become the world's biggest hub. ADNFCR-408-ID-801661804-ADNFCR
