Renoir exhibition in Woking

Renoir exhibition in Woking
18 Nov 2013

The Surrey town of Woking is perhaps not the first place you'd think of going for a major exhibition of impressionist art.

However, this spring The Lightbox gallery will become the first regional gallery to bring together a cohesive representation of the work of the French artist Renoir held in British collections.

'Renoir in Britain' will not only feature masterpieces by the impressionist painter, but also tell the story of how his art came to the UK.

'The exhibition not only presents a unique opportunity for visitors to see … what are regarded as some of Renoir's most quintessential works, but also tells the fascinating story of how they came to be in British art collections,' commented exhibition curator  Michael Regan.

Highlights of the free show, which is taking place from 8 February to 20 April 2014, will include 'A Bather', (1885-90), from the National Gallery and 'Lakeside Landscapes', (1889), from the National Gallery.ADNFCR-408-ID-801661622-ADNFCR
