Most over 50s admit to having only seen a few iconic landmarks

Many Brits age 50 and above have seen only a handful of the world's most iconic landmarks, according to new research.

When presented with a list of sights, including the Great Wall of China, the Statue of Liberty, the Pyramids, the Taj Mahal, the Niagara Falls and the Leaning Tower of Pisa, most admitted to having only visited one or two.

Of the ones they have seen, Big Ben and the Eiffel Tower were the two most visited landmarks - which is perhaps not surprising considering they are the closest to home.

Having said that, another study conducted in August found that even British landmarks are easily avoided, with the average Brit having only seen a quarter of the UK's most famous sights.

'People can become overwhelmed by the huge choice of holiday destinations and simply stick to what they know,' commented Erica Chang, regional director of HomeAway, which conducted the most recent study. ADNFCR-408-ID-801664992-ADNFCR
