Cristiano Ronaldo has announced he is opening a museum dedicated to himself in his hometown of Funchal.

The Real Madrid striker has said he will be there in person to officially open the museum in the Madeiran capital on 15 December.

It will showcase memorabilia, including footballs, photographs and trophies from the Portuguese international's thus-far stellar playing career.

Although the project seems typically self-indulgent for a player renowned as much for his looks as his skills, it will undoubtedly provide a tourism boost for the island.

'Cristiano wants to give something back to Madeira and he came up with the idea along with his mother,' a spokesperson said.

The former Manchester United star is hotly tipped to this year end Leo Messi's reign as the world's best player by scooping the prestigious FIFA Ballon d'Or ('Golden ball'). The Barcelona forward has won it for the past three years.ADNFCR-408-ID-801669283-ADNFCR
