US Airways-American merger complete
10 Dec 2013

US Airways and American Airlines have completed their merger to form the world's biggest airline.

Between the two carriers, customers now have access to 6,700 daily flights to more than 330 destinations.

Despite the merger, passengers have been advised it will be 'business as usual' for the time being, with aa.com and usairways.com both remaining active, along with their loyalty programmes.

However, the long-term plan is for codeshare agreements, co-located ticket counters and full website integration to be rolled out, among other initiatives.

'We are taking the best of both US Airways and American Airlines to create a formidable competitor, better positioned to deliver for all of our stakeholders,' commented  Doug Parker, chief executive of American Airlines.

On 30 March next year, US Airways will exit Star Alliance and enter the oneworld global airline alliance, which already comprises British Airways, Iberia, Finnair, Japan Airlines and Qantas.ADNFCR-408-ID-801670581-ADNFCR
