Normandy gearing up for 70th Anniversary of D-Day

Normandy gearing up for 70th Anniversary of D-Day
17 Dec 2013

Britons with a love of history should take a look at the calendar of events on offer in Normandy next year to mark the 70th Anniversary of the D-Day landings.

Between March and September, the French region will be hosting historical re-enactments, firework displays, military processions, concerts, exhibitions and much more.

Normandy's museum offering has also been improved for the anniversary, with new facilities and exhibition spaces opening, and GPS tours and downloadable apps developed to enhance the visitor experience.

Next year is likely to be particularly special given that it may be the last time that a significant number of veterans gather in Normandy to remember their fallen comrades.

The official D-Day commemoration ceremony will take place on 6 June at Sword beach in Ouistreham, attended by veterans and heads of state.

For regular visitors, highlights of the events will include the Giant Picnic on Omaha Beach on 7 June. ADNFCR-408-ID-801673312-ADNFCR
