Travelling good for you

While the benefits of travelling are obvious to anyone who's enjoyed a sunsoaked holiday, there is now scientific data to back up this anecdotal evidence.

According to research by the Global Commission on Aging and Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies, in partnership with the US Travel Association, both men and women gain significant health benefits from travelling, the LA Times reports.

Women who vacation every six years or less have a much higher risk of heart attack than those who holiday at least twice a year. Men who don't take an annual break have a 20% higher risk of premature death and a 30% greater chance of dying from heart disease.

The impact of travel on wellbeing was also found to be immediate, with 89% of respondents experiencing a significant drops in stress levels after just a few days away.

Perhaps understanding these benefits, almost two-thirds of Americans (59%) dream of travelling in retirement.ADNFCR-408-ID-801675267-ADNFCR
