The top ten product and service innovations introduced by airlines last year have been named.

Topping the chart compiled by airlinetrends.com is the move made by several airlines to allow passengers to download in-flight entertainment, such as magazines, to their smartphones and tablets.

Second place was claimed by airBaltic, which launched an ordering system that allows travellers to customize their on-board meal before they fly by dragging and dropping their preferred meal items onto a digital airline tray.

Commenting on the award, Martin Sedlacky, chief operations officer of airBaltic said: 'I am delighted that airBaltic was recognised prominently. This is an excellent impetus for us to keep working on other improvements in the future.'

The top three was completed by British Airways, which is developing an electronic baggage tag that removes the need for a new paper one to be printed each time a traveller checks-in a bag.
