Cape Town celebrates winning newspaper praise

Cape Town celebrates winning newspaper praise
13 Jan 2014

Cape Town is celebrating after being named as a top destination in not one but two respected newspapers.

The South African city topped both the Guardian's list of Holiday Hotspots and the New York Times' 52 Places to Go in 2014.

These nominations were welcomed by Alan Winde, Western Cape minister of finance, economic development and tourism, who said: 'This is great news for our city's tourism sector and excellent publicity for our destination.

'These awards will no doubt help to elevate Cape Town to the top of travellers' bucket lists.'

South Africa is back in the international spotlight following the death of Nelson Mandela, who described Table Mountain as 'a beacon of hope' during his time in prison on Robben Island.

And with Cape Town 2014's World Design Capital - an honour bestowed biennially by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design - there are plenty of reasons to head there this year. ADNFCR-408-ID-801681679-ADNFCR
