Delta named Airline of the Year

Air Transport World (ATW) magazine has selected Delta as its Airline of the Year for 2014.

It is the first time a US-based carrier has won the prestigious award in a decade, so the airline is understandably thrilled with the announcement.

'It's an honor to have the hard work of Delta people recognised,' commented chief executive Richard Anderson.

'The professionalism and commitment of Delta people to our company, to one another and to our customers is unmatched.'

Delta was praised by the judges for its innovation and leadership by executive management; strong financial discipline; excellent safety record; proven leadership in community, environmental and technological endeavors; consistent high standards of customer service; and excellent employee relations.

ATW editor-in-chief Karen Walker said Delta, which serves around 165m passengers per year, 'thoroughly deserved' the accolade.

Last year, Delta won a number of awards, including ranking number one on Fortune magazine's Most Admired global airline industry list and topping the Business Travel News Annual Airline Survey.ADNFCR-408-ID-801686276-ADNFCR
