Emirates confirms Rugby World Cup deal
28 Jan 2014

Emirates has announced a sponsorship deal that will see the airline flying services between England and Japan especially for the Rugby World Cup (RWC) in 2015 and 2019, as the events will take place in those two countries respectively.

The carrier confirmed that it will function as the official airline for both sporting extravaganzas, with the familiar Fly Emirates logo adorning the shirts of match officials throughout the events.

However, in keeping with the rules of the RWC, there will be no branding on the kit of the players - a standard that has been maintained since its conception in 1987.

Tim Clark, president of the Emirates, said he was thrilled that the company will be renewing its deal, with the airline having supported the tournament for more than 20 years.

'For Emirates, it was a natural decision to be the first Worldwide Partner of both the England and Japan tournaments, and as official airline we look forward to flying fans to experience the event for themselves,' he commented.

Mr Clark added that the next events are set to be even more exciting after the 2011 RWC in New Zealand became the most widely-broadcast in the history of the tournament.

'Rugby is an international sport that reaches an international audience, many of whom are Emirates customers,' he concluded.

Brett Gosper, managing director of the RWC, also confirmed his excitement for the partnership.

'We look forward to building on our strong collaboration with Emirates to further enhance the promotion of rugby,' he said.

So far, 13 countries have qualified for entry into the tournament, with the remaining seven teams required to be decided over the coming months as more qualifying matches are played.

RWC 2015 gets underway on September 18th next year at Twickenham Stadium in London, with hosts England set to get the tournament underway in the opening game. Rugby fanatics will just have to wait until then to get their fill of the sport.ADNFCR-408-ID-801687446-ADNFCR
