China experiencing airport construction boom

China experiencing airport construction boom
12 Feb 2014

China is rapidly expanding its airport infrastructure, with new facilities being built across the country.

According to the government, the number of airports in China is set to grow to 230 by 2015, up from 175 in 2010.

One of the biggest projects in the pipeline, according to the Financial Times, is a proposed four-runway hub on the outskirts of Beijing that will be bigger than Bermuda.

'We're not talking about one so-called national airport, such as a Heathrow, we're talking about a country that's going to have 20 or 30 major airports,' Marc Allen, Boeing’s outgoing China head, told the news provider.

China's rapid growth is one of the major concerns behind expanding airport capacity in the south of England, with mayor Boris Johnson repeatedly voicing his desire to follow the BRIC economy's lead.

However, a decision on the matter isn't due until 2015, following the completion of the Airport Commission's report.ADNFCR-408-ID-801692919-ADNFCR
