The tennis courts at Wimbledon champion Andy Murray's new hotel in Scotland are to be painted in the colours of SW19.

But according to the contractor, it was the world number seven's mother, Judy, the captain of the British Fed Cup team, who chose the distinctive green and purple colour scheme and asked the All England Club for permission to use it at the Cromlix House Hotel near Dunblane.

'She was clear then that she wanted Wimbledon colours,' said Les Maclean, managing director of Doe Sport North.

'There was no discussion. Judy sorted it out with the All-England Club. She's done a lot for them.'

Commenting on the agreement, a spokesman for the All England Club said: 'If it gets more people playing and enjoying tennis, so much the better.'

The hotel is due to open on 1 April with double rooms priced at £250 per night. ADNFCR-408-ID-801695599-ADNFCR
