Ikea planning Liverpool hotel

Ikea planning Liverpool hotel

Ikea is hoping to open a hotel in Liverpool on the site of a stalled multi-million pound development, according to reports.

The Swedish budget furniture retailer first announced last year that it was working with Marriott International to launch a new global brand called Moxy Hotels, and yesterday (2 March) a spokeswoman for the leading hotel chain told the Liverpool Echo that it was eyeing up a development on Cropper Street.

'We hope to develop a Moxy Hotel on Cropper Street, but unfortunately cannot confirm details just yet,' she said.

Cropper Street, near Liverpool Central station, is the location of the proposed £160m Central Village development that ran into difficulties last year when a contractor went broke.

However, two new planning applications submitted last week suggest that Central Village is getting back on track.

The first Moxy Hotel is set to open at Milan's Malpensa Airport later this year. ADNFCR-408-ID-801699631-ADNFCR
