13 Mar 2014

New figures have underlined Abu Dhabi's status as an increasingly popular tourism destination, with a report from local officials showing that the country's 149 hotels got off to a flying start in 2014.

According to the latest set of data, some 276,970 guests checked into the emirate’s accommodation in January. This represents a 36 per cent rise year-on-year.

What's more, the numbers released by the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority show that during the month of January, the arrivals cumulatively delivered 855,651 guest nights. This is a 26 per cent rise on the same month-by-month comparison.

Reflecting on the positive figures, Jasem Al Darmaki, deputy director general of Tourism & Culture Authority Abu Dhabi, said: "January reaped the benefits of the international holiday seasons and the hosting of many major events in the emirate including the World Future Energy Summit and the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship."

He added: "We have stretched our hotel guest target to 3.1 million per year following last year’s record breaking performance when we exceeded our hotel guest target and achieved our 2014 goal of 2.8 million."

So, what exactly is the appeal of travelling to the emirate?

One of the biggest attractions of holidaying here is that the weather means that regardless of the time of year that you travel, you're sure to encounter plenty of glorious sunshine.

What better way to relax and unwind than by sitting on a beach and soaking in the sun rays.

Alternatively, you may wish to join a desert tour and there is plenty of choice on this front. You can get in a 4x4 and head out to set the golden sand.

This is a great way to ensure that you get a real insight into what life is really like in the emirate.ADNFCR-408-ID-801703204-ADNFCR
