Tourism officials in Cyprus are hopeful that this year will see a spike in the number of UK visitors heading to the Mediterranean island in order to stage a wedding.

Last year saw a fall in the number of people heading to this part of the world for the purpose of tying the knot, but there is a belief that this will not be the case in the remaining months of this year.

Over the last few decades, an increasing number of Brits have headed to Cyprus to get married in style and Antigoni Kapodistria, the Cyprus Organisation's Tourism Officer, observed that the country still holds a dominant position in the wedding industry.

She noted that it forms a key part of the local economy, adding that there is no reason for any great panic.

"The main goal is to intensify actions towards the development and the promotion of this special product in both priority markets like the UK, Israel, Lebanon and Russia and in new non-European promising ones," she told the Cyprus Mail.ADNFCR-408-ID-801703200-ADNFCR
