13 Mar 2014

Following a period of turbulence, the Maltese tourism industry has seen a welcome return to positive territory in recent years, with figures showing excellent signs once more.

Indeed, the small Mediterranean island has seen successive record years. In 2013, for instance, the country saw as many as 1.6 million people visit, which represents a ten per cent increase on the year before.

Figures show that the number of bed-nights reached 13 million, which represents an increase of nine per cent over the corresponding period the year before.

Reflecting on the upturn, tourism minister Karmenu Vella said that officials are doing their utmost to make Malta an attraction for tourists all year-round.

"If we continue to attract the number of tourists we are attracting during the winter months, as was the case in October and November, where an increase of 13 per cent and 14.5 per cent respectively has been witnessed, Malta will not just be limited to operating in summer only," he told Malta Independent Online.ADNFCR-408-ID-801703209-ADNFCR
