Thailand state of emergency set to be lifted

The tourism industry in Thailand is set to receive a boost after it was decided that the state of emergency that has been in place for some time ought to be lifted

The emergency decree was introduced in January in Bangkok and surrounding provinces , meaning the government's power to deal with disorder was strengthened.

Instead, it has been confirmed that the decree will be replaced by the Internal Security Act. The decision has already been given the green light by prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

"We have agreed to lift the state of emergency and use the Internal Security Act starting from tomorrow until April 30 as the number of protesters has dwindled ... and after pleas from the business community," national security chief Paradorn Pattanathabutr told Reuters.

The original protests proved to be extremely disruptive, leading to key road junctions behind closed. However, the situation now appears to have eased.ADNFCR-408-ID-801704386-ADNFCR
