The pyramids of Egypt help to make Cairo one of the top tourist destinations in the world, and the incredible sight will soon be accompanied by a new museum on the site.

The new attraction, which is to be known as the Grand Egyptian Museum, is set to feature as many as 100,000 artefacts. The most famous of these is, perhaps, the mummy of King Tutankhamun.

It was, in fact, initially supposed to open in 2012 but has been delayed for a variety of reasons. Now, developers are saying that it will be open to the public in 2015.

The site was recently toured by Mohammed Ibrahim, Egypt’s antiquities minister, who observed that the construction comes at a historical moment.

That's because January 25th marks the anniversary of the revolution, which formed a key part in the Arab Spring.

No visit to the Egyptian capital is complete without taking a trip to the historic site.ADNFCR-408-ID-801704827-ADNFCR
