Popularity of cruises on the rise, figures show

New figures have confirmed that more Europeans than ever booked a cruise holiday in 2013.

The news was announced by Pierfrancesco Vago, the chairman of Cruise Lines International Association Europe, who made the statement at the 30th annual Cruise Shipping Miami conference.

He revealed that the number of cruisers from the continent hit the 6.357 million mark, representing a four per cent increase since 2012.

What's more, it has been confirmed that the headline figure has doubled in the space of two years, while since the onset of the economic crisis, there has been a 43 per cent increase.

Mr Vago said: "The impressive figures on the European cruise market 2013 released today clearly show the strong growth trend of an industry which already generates 327,000 jobs and €37.9 billion of economic benefits annually."
