Tourists given Macchu Picchu warning

Machu Picchu in Peru is undoubtedly one of the world's most impressive tourist destinations - yet is seems like the enthusiasm of some visitors is starting to get the better of them.

Peruvian officials have confirmed that instances of 'naked tourism' at the 15th century site are on the rise.

Earlier this month, for instance, four US tourists were detained after it was found that they had got naked and posed for photos at the historic site, the Peruvian Times reports.

And there have also been incidents of a similar nature involving Canadians and Australians. It comes shortly after a naked couple videotaped themselves running across the landmark in 2013.

Such tapes and photographs have become popular on social media sites, yet local officials are deeply unimpressed and are preparing to crackdown on such antics.

The landmark was built by the Incas in the late 15th century but was subsequently abandoned during the time of the Spanish Conquest.ADNFCR-408-ID-801705686-ADNFCR
