Tunisia hoping to see tourism upturn
24 Mar 2014

Officials in Tunisia are working diligently to boost the local tourism industry, which has taken a hit in recent years.

To this end, they have enlisted the help of online media and characters from the Star Wars franchise.

Amel Karboul, Tunisia’s new tourism minister, admitted that this is a long-term process and that significant changes will take years to bring about.

"To change a country from one that is relatively inexpensive to a top-end tourist destination will take ten or 15 years," she said.

"But to change the image of a country from one that’s cheap to one that is ‘fun’ can be done much more quickly, and that’s a priority for us."

Tunisia is a great destination if you wish to enjoy some sunshine and then visit some of the great historic sights of the country, such as a Roman amphitheatre.

The region is, of course, hoping to bounce back following the impact of the Arab Spring in 2011.ADNFCR-408-ID-801706120-ADNFCR
