New Zealand launches ambitious tourist drive

New Zealand launches ambitious tourist drive
26 Mar 2014

Auckland Airport has become the latest body to throw its weight behind a new campaign that is designed to attract more tourists from emerging markets to the beautiful and history holiday destination of New Zealand.

Of course, the country already has a booming tourist industry, which forms a key part of the local economy.

However, plans are now in place to boost tourist numbers from other, more obscure destinations that it currently fails to attract.

To this end, a campaign has been launched that focuses on food and the unique appeal that New Zealand holds on this front.

The campaign consists of a gourmet tour of the country involving Indonesian social media personality Marischka Prudence, as well as journalists and travel industry executives.

Glenn Wedlock, Auckland Airport's general manager of aeronautical commercial, explained that he is keen to see more tourists arrive from Indonesia.

"Indonesia represents a major opportunity for New Zealand.

"Our Ambition 2020 strategy targets 38,900 Indonesian arrivals into New Zealand by 2020 and we have already experienced good growth from the Indonesian market," he remarked.

But in addition to the great food on offer in this charming country, what else is there for first-time visitors to enjoy?

Well, one of the key attractions of holidaying here is that it affords you the chance to learn more about the fascinating history of the Maori people.

Assuming you're not familiar with the story already, this is a great opportunity to learn how it is has progressed over time and how the Maoris are now seen in modern New Zealand.

Alternatively, you may wish to take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy some extreme sports in New Zealand - something the country is well-known for.
