Among the many features that help to make London one of the must-visit cities of the world is its rich history of theatre and musical entertainment.

The capital is home to loads of respected venues, which often host some of the biggest and best stars from the world of entertainment.

In the coming months, for instance, the city will see Hollywood star Bennedict Cumberbatch make his return to the stage.

Bennedict Cumberbatch is set to appear in Hamlet at the Barbican next year, which is to be directed by Lyndsey Turner, who said that she was "thrilled" to have been given the opportunity.

Indeed, she is particularly looking forward to have the opportunity to direct Cumberbatch, who she described as one of the "most gifted and exciting actors of his generation".

He last appeared on the stage in 2011, when he performed in the National Theatre's production of Frankenstein.

The production was directed by Danny Boyle and during the show, he shared the roles of Frankenstein and his mother with Jonny Lee Miller.

In a recent interview with the Telegraph, Cumberbatch said that the role he now has is one that he had been eyeing up for some time.

"It's a role I've been interested in for a long time," he said. "I don't know if there is such a thing as a right age to play the part, but 36 or 37 seems appropriate to me."

Booking details for the eagerly-awaited production will be confirmed in May, organisers have announced.

However, if you're keen to visit the city but are not drawn to the idea of seeing a Shakespearean play, then why not try one of the other great shows being staged in London?

The Lion King and The Book of Mormon are among the best of these and are definitely worth seeing for yourself.ADNFCR-408-ID-801707011-ADNFCR
