New research has revealed the importance of business travel to the tourism industry in the US and the economy more broadly.

The report, conducted by the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) Foundation, confirmed that in 2012, the nation's businesses spent as much as$384 billion to send travellers on 452 million business trips.

What’s more, it has been revealed that the business travel industry supports 7.1 million jobs, generating a whopping $118 billion in federal, state and local taxes.

“This study shows business travelers are spending hundreds of billions on hotels, airports and restaurants,” commented Michael McCormick, executive director and the chief operating officer of the GBTA.

“And, if governments enacted pro-business traveler policies, companies would be incentivized towards optimal travel expenditures levels.”

He added that this eventuality will add another $13 billion in travel spending, aswell as $250 billion in additional gross profit.ADNFCR-408-ID-801709431-ADNFCR
