Paphos named among cheapest holiday destinations

Paphos named among cheapest holiday destinations
29 Apr 2014

The Cypriot destination of Paphos has been named as one of the best value places to visit for holidaymakers in 2014.

The popular coastal resort has reached sixth place on the Post Office barometer, which lists the best places according to value for money.

One of the reasons for this is that Paphos has seen a dramatic fall in prices, with the report showing that in some respects, costs have fallen by as much as 21 per cent.

Reflecting on the results of the report, head of the Paphos regional board of tourism Nassos Hadjigeorgiou said: "We are pleased to see that Paphos is competitive compared to other hotspots in Europe. This ranking gives travellers additional reasons to choose Paphos for holidays."

He added: "It is a fact that prices have dropped here. Retailers have appraised the current climate and they are adapting to the new trend, offering more competitive prices and further enhancing service quality. This is a positive result and what the client needs."

According to Fytos Thrassyvoulou, the head of the Cyprus Restaurants Federation, the majority of eateries in Paphos had dropped prices in order to be more competitive.

The owner of two restaurants added: "We want to give value for money and ensure happy customers, and it seems to be working."

The report confirmed that Paphos, which is already a popular destination among Brits despite the ongoing economic troubles, had the cheapest water from all destinations, at 25 pence a bottle.

What's more, it was also home to the cheapest insect repellent, which is one of the items used to determine the make-up of the list.

Last week, Brits were reminded that the strength of the pound was welcoming news for them as it means that holidays are in fact cheaper.ADNFCR-408-ID-801716350-ADNFCR
