Sicily welcomes new tourist attraction

Sicily welcomes new tourist attraction
30 Apr 2014

If you're a diving enthusiast, then the coastline of Sicily might not be the first destination that springs to mind for an excursion of this sort.

However, people who enjoy this particular pursuit have been given good reason to consider doing exactly that in this part of the world.

That's because the coastline of the island has been installed with an incredible statue of Jesus Christ, which is submerged below the water and is sure to be an amazing sight as soon as you dip your head under the waves.

Credit for the project has been handed to a local diving school, which has helped to put the statue 98ft away from the coast.

The mayor of the island said that the overall ambition behind the move is for it to lead to a spike in visitor numbers in the coming months.

The Christ of the Abyss, as it has been titled, is certainly unlikely to escape your attention if you do opt to go diving in Sicily. ADNFCR-408-ID-801716979-ADNFCR
