Syria set for increase in visitor numbers
7 May 2014

The Middle East has gone through a terrible period of political and social unrest over the last few years - but it finally appears that the tourism industry in the region is starting to get back on its feet.

One of the areas most badly damaged in the conflict has been Syria, which has received much media attention in recent years.

But according to the country's tourism minister, the central province of Homs will soon see a "prosperous tourist season".

Speaking to SANA, the state news agency, Bisher Yazigi said that the government would do all it can to support the region and thereby get the tourism industry back on track.

He observed that Syria can expect an influx of visitors due to the fact that "various activities are planned... during the summer", though he declined the opportunity to elaborate on that.

Despite the damage caused by the conflict, the government is confident that the tourism industry can be revived.ADNFCR-408-ID-801718454-ADNFCR
