Dubai aims to be world's most visited city
8 May 2014

The Middle Eastern holiday destination of Dubai has been given the ambitious target of becoming the world's most visited city, as it seeks to take the prestigious title from London.

In 2013, London attracted as many as 16 million tourists, but officials in Dubai are confident that this figure can be surpassed over the coming months.

The tourism department in Dubai said that the ambition was lofty, but suggested that it was realistic to see another year of ten per cent growth, as had been the case in 2013.

Helal Saeed Almarri, director-general of Dubai's Department of Tourism, observed that the emirate is already a must-visit destination.

"Since Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE vice-president … announced the Tourism Vision for 2020 at last year's ATM, the UAE has won the right to host Expo 2020 in Dubai," he said.

"The first phase of our second international airport has opened at Dubai World Central and a substantial number of new hotels, attractions and events have opened, taken place or been announced."ADNFCR-408-ID-801718858-ADNFCR
