Cyprus official predicts spike in visitor numbers
15 May 2014

Tourism officials in Cyrus remain confident that they will see a marked increase in visitor numbers in 2014, despite ongoing troubles in Ukraine and Russia.

Of course, a large number of people from these countries visit every year but there is a very real danger that numbers will subside in light of the political uncertainty.

Akis Vavlitis, chairman of the association of tourism enterprises, observed that while a decline has been seen in recent times, it is not inconceivable that this year will witness a rise of between three and five per cent.

"However, it will all depend on developments in Ukraine and Russia, and the reason is that it will possibly start to affect the world economy as experts are saying, and this will also affect Europe and tourism," Mr Vavlitis noted.

He added that he hoped to see an increase in visitor numbers in 2014 from the UK and Scandinavia.ADNFCR-408-ID-801720649-ADNFCR
