Irish rugby legend outlines tourism vision

Irish rugby legend Keith Wood is spearheading a campaign that could ultimately lead to a spike in sport tourism in the country.

Indeed, a major industry summit has been told that the country could see its revenue from sport tourism double in the space of five years.

The effort needs to receive support from the government, which would bid for major international events - and it has already received the backing of Wood, who represented Ireland and the British Lions with distinction during his career.

Speaking about the issue, Wood observed that the ambitious plan would only come to fruition if it received support from major bodies in Ireland.

"We've looked at best practice elsewhere in the world, and how they've delivered on their aspirations was through a bid company," he commented.

Wood said, too, that sport tourists spend twice as much as other visitors, suggesting that the local authorities need to recognise this point.ADNFCR-408-ID-801721086-ADNFCR
