New York launches tourism campaign
16 May 2014

New York has announced ambitious plans to boost visitor numbers in the coming months and years.

To this end, the state has confirmed that it is to increase its advertising budget by as much as 50 per cent.

This money will go towards seven new adverts that are to be narrated by a number of famous faces.

Among those who have filmed an advert are actors Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep, while popular musician Billy Joel has also lent his face to the campaign.

Speaking at the second Tourism Summit in Manhattan, governor Andrew Cuomo explained: "We have a story untold about upstate New York because the state wasn't aggressive enough in telling its own tourism story.

"There is almost no activity, no cultural institution that you would want to participate in that we don't have here in New York. We just haven't told the story, and this advertising budget is a big step forward."ADNFCR-408-ID-801721077-ADNFCR
