27 May 2014

The new Indian government has announced its intention to boost tourism in the country in the coming months and years.

Narendra Modi, the new prime minister, identified increasing visitor numbers as one of his key ambitions following the election.

It is hoped that a more relaxed attitude towards tourism and visa registrations will be implemented soon, which ought to mean that visitor numbers will increase.

Madhavan Menon, managing director of Thomas Cook India, commented: "The new government’s pro-tourism stance is indeed welcome, and its leaders recognising the powerful role of tourism in employment generation and as a growth driver augurs well for the sector as a whole.

"We are hopeful of prioritization towards key issues like safety and infrastructure."

He added that air travel, in particular, ought to see a major benefit of these changes. And for lots of Brits, the opportunity to visit India is a cultural experience like no other.ADNFCR-408-ID-801723264-ADNFCR
