Wales sees spike in visitor numbers
27 May 2014

A new survey has confirmed that the tourism industry in Wales received a welcome boost during the Easter period.

Visit Wales, the Welsh tourism body, has revealed that some 44 per cent of tourism businesses welcomed more visitors or guests than last Easter.

What’s more, some 32 per cent said they had a similar level, while 19 per cent reported a fall.

This was, according to the majority of those firms surveyed, due to the untypically nice weather at that time of year.

Ministers, meanwhile, cited the positive influence of recent marketing campaigns that have encouraged an increasing number of Brits to holiday in the country.

Edwina Hart, the tourism minster, commented: "Visit Wales' marketing work continues and reaction to the new campaign has been very positive with the campaign already achieving its response targets.

"Traffic to the website also saw a big increase, following the launch of the campaign with, 53 per cent more visitors from the UK going to the website for information in March [and] a further increase of 42 per cent in April."ADNFCR-408-ID-801723283-ADNFCR
