Enjoy a festival this summer

Enjoy a festival this summer
30 May 2014

Summertime is upon us in Europe and that means that it is festival season on the continent.

There are loads of great events being staged over the next few months - and there is no better time of the year to have fun than when the sun is out.

Here, we're going to take a look at three of the more interesting festivals that are due to take place over the next few months.

The Running of the Bulls

Among the most bizarre sights that you can ever wish to see, the Running of the Bulls is the high-point of a festival staged in Pamplona, Spain, every summer.

The event itself actually dates back to the 14th century, when it was seen as a good way of transporting cattle from one part of town to the next.

Over time, however, it has taken on a competitive edge and is now among one of the most high-profile events staged in Europe during the summertime.

La Tomatina

For something equally thrilling, how about attending La Tomatina? This is essentially a giant food fight - and not the sort of event that you are likely to forget in a hurry.

Participants are actually encouraged to hurl tomatoes to just about anyone who is in their line of vision. It's as chaotic as it is fun.

If you do participate, there is one thing for certain: you will never look at the fruit in the same way again.

Royal Ascot

As a dramatic alternative, you could attend the Royal Ascot Festival of horse racing, which is always a great deal of fun.

It is among the best events on the racing calendar and, even if you've never before placed a bet on a horse, you're bound to have lots of fun.ADNFCR-408-ID-801724887-ADNFCR
