Heathrow T2 ready to open

Heathrow T2 ready to open
3 Jun 2014

Tomorrow (4 June) will see Heathrow’s new Terminal 2 open to the public with what officials have described as a ‘soft opening’.

The new terminal will open in various stages, with bosses aiming to avoid the long queues, flight delays and bad publicity that plagued the early days of T5 back in 2008.

For the first three weeks, T2 will operate at just 10% of its capacity, with just United Airlines flying from the building initially. More airlines will gradually be added and it is hoped this process will allow the airport to iron out ‘teething problems’ with minimal disruption to passengers.

In total, 28 airlines will be using the terminal by the time it is fully operational at the end of October.

Joining United here will be the likes of Virgin Atlantic Little Red, Thai Airways, Lufthansa, Air Canada and Air New Zealand.

The new terminal has been constructed to be able to handle up to 20 million passengers annually.
