While the Swiss Alps in the Bernese Oberland have always had plenty to keep travellers occupied in the summer - such as the spectacular Jungfrau railways network - there are now a few more reasons for people to visit this part of Switzerland during the warmer months.

Lindt has opened the world’s highest chocolate shop, some 3,454 m above sea level in the mountains, with visitors able to see some of the company’s master chocolatiers at work, as well as buy some treats to take home with them.

There are also two new restaurants among the peaks of the Swiss Alps - Glacier Restaurant, where you’ll have outstanding views of the Aletsch Glacier as you dine, and Bollywood Restaurant.

As a final treat, the Schynige Platte will host daily Swiss Alphorn performances from 11am until 2pm, with these having started on 29 May and concluding on 26 October. In addition to listening to the distinctive music yourself, you can even have a go, with the musicians happy to show travellers the basics of alphorn blowing.

Beautiful lakes, stunning wildflower meadows and charming Swiss villages are just a few of the other things to look forward to on a visit to the region.
