The National Trust property of Buckland Abbey will have a new and exciting exhibit from this Friday (13 June). The Rembrandt Revealed exhibition will showcase the newly authenticated self portrait of the famous painter.

Painstaking scientific analysis and a thorough examination by one of the world’s leading Rembrandt experts have confirmed that the self portrait is indeed one created by the Dutch master.

There has been much uncertainty over whether Rembrandt was behind the portrait, with some suggesting one of his students may have painted it because the brushwork wasn’t accomplished enough to be by the famous artist himself.

However, removing several layers of old varnish has revealed a new level of detail in the work and this is one of the many factors that has led to its authentication.

Buckland Abbey in Devon will now display the painting in a new exhibition, allowing the public to get a look at the incredible artwork that has been valued at over £30 million.ADNFCR-408-ID-801727336-ADNFCR
