World Cup kicks off in Brazil
12 Jun 2014

All eyes are on Brazil today (12 June) as the long wait for the start of the 2014 World Cup comes to an end. Football fans will be watching with bated breath over the coming days and weeks to see how their teams fare.

Over in Brazil, it’s going to be a party like no other when the Opening Ceremony begins at 2.15pm local time (around 7pm UK time).

Around two hours later, the action will begin in earnest when hosts Brazil take on Croatia in the first match of the tournament.

Organisers are hoping that anyone who hasn’t been lucky enough to get tickets for the tournament itself will be inspired by what they see of the country, and want to plan a holiday here at a later date.

Numerous cities all over the nation will be hosting matches, including Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia, Sao Paulo, Salvador, Natal, Belo Horizonte and Porto Alegre.
