Debut European airport Nando's opens

Debut European airport Nando's opens
23 Jul 2014

Despite its popularity, until now Nando's has never opened a branch in a European airport.

That has just changed though, as Nando's London Gatwick Airport opened its doors today, July 23rd.

The new eatery operates 20 hours per day, with customers able to visit starting at 4am and closing time not happening until the day's final flight. It seats 220 people and has led to 135 new Gatwick Airport jobs.

The opening comes after Gatwick research presented passengers with food brands and found that 33 per cent said Nando's was the one they would be most likely to take a trip to at the airport  - making it the most popular option on the list.

The new Nando's spans 5,900 ft, and has been constructed over a period of several months. Interior decoration includes African art.

"Gatwick is thrilled that Nando’s has opened its doors to passengers today. Nando’s is a hugely popular brand and its extensive menu is perfectly matched to airport dining as it is quick, fresh and delicious and is also complemented by the exclusive breakfast option that is available as a grab-and-go," said Gatwick business development manager for catering, Charlotte Christiansen.

"More than a third of our passengers told us they would like to see a Nando’s at Gatwick so we have acted on this."

The Nando's outlet can be found in the South Terminal of the airport, an area that has undergone large scale redevelopment of shops and eateries recently.

Recent brands to come to the South Terminal include Harrods and clothes store Zara.

Before this, the North Terminal was completely made-over. This has had nine fresh food and drink venue openings during the last two years alone.

Gatwick is the second biggest airport in the UK and handles in excess of 36 million passengers annually, serving over 200 different destinations in some 90 nations.ADNFCR-408-ID-801737250-ADNFCR
