Richard Estes exhibition in USA
23 Jul 2014

The Portland Museum of Art in Oregon is currently presenting an exhibition on the artist Richard Estes, which will be in place until September 7th.

Then, this October, The Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington DC, USA, is set to become home to the exhibition, which is called Richard Estes' Realism.

Opening on October 10th, it will be at the Washington venue until February 8th next year, and is billed as the world's most comprehensive display of the artist's paintings yet undertaken.

Visitors have the chance to see 46 paintings by the artist, some of which are not often put on display.

Cityscapes, water scenes and landscapes all form part of the show, as do some portraits, and it is the first full overview of the man's career to be seen in the states since 1978. Pieces on show were created between the 60's and just last year.

"American audiences are long overdue for a careful reassessment of Richard Estes’ work. His paintings are rewardingly inexhaustible, and each viewing yields new discoveries," said the Smithsonian American Art Museum's Betsy Broun.

Visitors can find The Smithsonian American Art Museum at Eighth and F streets N.W and it is open every day from 11.30am until 7pm. There's no entry fee.

The Smithsonian reports that Estes has been a near life-long photographer. His paintings use several photos as their basis, mixed together.

Meanwhile, the Smithsonian Cup has recently been put on show in the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History.

This Gianmaria Buccellati crafted cup has spent over a decade being loaned to various other institutions, but is now to be seen in the Janet Annenberg Hooker Hall of Geology, Gems and Minerals.

The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History is situated 10th St. & Constitution Ave. NW, also in Washington.ADNFCR-408-ID-801737287-ADNFCR
