Japan is set to get its own Legoland park - joining the likes of the UK and US as a Legoland location - Merlin Entertainments has announced.

Legoland Japan is set to open in 2017 and will be built in Nagoya. Currently there is already an indoor Legoland Discovery Centre in Tokyo.

"Today’s announcement is another major milestone in the development of the LEGOLAND brand," said Merlin Entertainments chief executive officer, Nick Varney.

He noted that Merlin wants to open a new Legoland each two to three years, and believes that there could potentially be up to 20 park locations worldwide.

At the moment, there are six Legolands in five different countries, including the UK's Legoland Windsor. The next is planned to be in Dubai, opening its doors in 2016.

As well as Discovery Centres and Legolands, the Lego brand also has a big presence from specialist retail Lego Stores, just one of the places fans can buy the famous brick based construction products, including licensed toys linked to franchises such as Star Wars and Marvel characters.ADNFCR-408-ID-801737575-ADNFCR
